Noteworthy 2000?

I am not biased: Noteworthy Composer is the BEST tool I've ever used for composing music. I have to say that its simplicity is actually its best asset! I loved the fast way one can input notes in the score. What I personally do is use a midi keyboard to input all the notes without minding the note duration (all eight notes firest) then go back to the score again and manually selecting each note by editing it to it's proper note duration. The best feature is the playback. Why nobody else does it just blows my mind!

Anyway, my question really is: With all other software companies coming out with new versions for the next millenium, when can we see an all new, all improved Noteworthy Composer? =)

You know, it's funny you mentioned this...

I agree with you that Noteworthy is the best I've ever used. I haven't played around with other packages extensively, but when you compare $400 to $39 there's not much point in really getting to like something or other than package X can do better, is there? :)

The way Noteworthy lets you change note durations is simply its best feature IMHO. I am a really lousy keyboard player, and up until now I've had to do all of my sequences by manually entering the notes. Lots of mouse clicks, lots of time. Step Record with Cakewalk and what do you get? A bunch of eigth notes. Well, you can go to the piano roll view and fiddle around with the stupid little dashes to get the notes to the length you want, but you can't change them on the staff view. You also can't enter tied notes longer than one measure in length without resorting to the piano roll thing.

Enter Noteworthy. Record as eigth notes, then play with the rhythm to your heart's content without having to delete and re-enter notes. Tie, un-tie, dot, un-dot... It's wonderful!

I've gotten more use out of my controller keyboard in the last month or so than in the past two years. Noteworthy's interface is perfect for people like me who can't play well enough to get anything like a usable recording, but who can peck out the notes on a keyboard a little more quickly than moving the insertion cursor up and down the staff every time.

I really, really like it! Now I just need to learn more about music theory so I can spend less time trying to figure out what works and what doesn't.

It really isn't all that hard to use the "modulation" wheel on your midi keyboard to change note durations. I find THAT very convenient as well. If you have the same thing on YOUR'S, I would think it would be much easier to do it the same way and eliminate one step (changing note duration).

ummm... I think it's unanimous that Noteworthy is a great software, but would anyone know when can we expect a new version like a Noteworthy v.2.0 or something? Or shouldn't I hold my breath? =)....

One thing that I find even more useful than changing the length of the notes, is changing their height !!!

Simply select the note (or phrase), use Ctrl-Shift-Up or Ctrl-Shift-Down and the faulty note entered via (midi- or computer-)keyboard is now correct!! Maybe do I think this because I usually enter notes in correct rhythm (just take a tempo slow enough and it's easy) but I do make many mistakes on the note itself... :-)

BTW, I hope that v 2.00 will not appear before third millennium (which is in less than 400 days from now), but maybe 1.56 (or 1.60?) will appear soon ? I was used to more than one version per year :-) ...and since 1.10 version, I've never been disappointed!

NWC is the best program I have ever used. I don't have a MIDI interface, so I must enter the notes by hand, and NWC is the only program that I can enter notes with the keyboard vs. just the mouse. I wish it had more support for quintuplets and stuff, though. I am an amateur composer, and this is the easiest notation software to use, and I definitely recommend it to all.

I'm under the impression that Noteworthy has come to a halt. There's been no major upgrades for years. Unfortunately if it doesn't pick up soon I'm leaving! I can't bear all these add on external stuff to do basic notation work -- it's crazy and beyond a joke! No offence to you NWC just get a move on!

I have to agree with you there. All they have been updating is the "user tip" and registered user's page thingy. Why can't they upgrade the proggy itself. I mean, there's so much technology needed to make Noteworthy .... umm... "note-worthy!" Features like staff manipulation, better interface, and the like! I swear, this program could be the BOMB if only they keep the R&D working overtime!

Well it seems to me that NoteWorthy say in their literature that upgrades will be free for all 1.XX versions but when we reach version 2 it's payout time.

It has been a long time since the last upgrade so let's just hope that something is in R & D as you put it but announcements are rarely made in advance of a release.

The only real question would be if we do get an upgrade soon, will it be a freebee 1.something or other or a paying 2.0

To my way of thinking, I have had so much value out of this product with so little trouble that if and when we get an upgrade that needs more money, I will NOT be complaining.

I am very uncertain of whether Noteworthy will be releasing a new version. Many software companies I am in contact with inform clients of coming releases/upgrades. My company does the same: we make information of this to customers when we contact them or post information.
So I would like to ask Noteworthy on behalf of all. Will there be a new release and how long before it comes out of development?

Personally, I think this is an interim release. They *must*
be working on V2.0, and it must contain some of the more
requested features such as tuplets and (hopefully) multi-
staff selection. The new features in this release are
relatively minor ones (although very welcome).

If not, I fear I will need to move on soon.

After having had a brief look at the 1.77 beta version, I'm happy to say that it contains some improvements which - for my needs - are extremely valuable. All my wishes seem to have come true! - Well, I still have two wishes left but when these are fulfilled, NWC will be perfect. So, I'm preparing for soon stopping to wait for another upgrade:-).

Is there really a 1.7 beta? All I can find is the 1.55b. Or am I not looking hard enough?
