playing rhythm template with music

I tried to import a rhythm template that I made myself. It's just quarter notes played with the woodblock sound to act as a metronome, but when I play it back, the woodblock sound doesn't happen in the right spot and it sounds more like a kazoo. How can I get these to play together? I'm pretty new at Noteworthy, so I'm still learning.

Make sure your template staff is set to Channel 10.
(Select the staff and press F2).

Thanks. That did the trick, but later on it started making strange sounds again, even on channel 10. Then I changed it to channel 2, and it worked fine. Does that happen sometimes?

There's no reason the sound should have changed unless you did something odd.

I used channel 10 for a hidden staff, with quarter notes, selecting an acoustic piano as the instrument choice (it works well for drum sounds).  The first beat was a chord of three notes, middle line B, E and F above it. The second beat was just the E, third beat was F, and the fourth beat was E.

This gives me a strong beat with a bit of chime and chirp to it, a weak 2nd and 4th beat, and a noticeably different beat on 3. Add a bar line, then copy the whole works as many times as you need (rather than use a repeat).

You should experiment with notes to get the sound you like - starting from below the bass clef and rising above the treble clef - in channel 10 with piano setting, each indicated pitch will give you a different percussion sound.  G below the bass clef will give you a sound like two drumsticks being tapped on each other.  Bass clef bottom line G will give you a booming bass drum.
