drone

I want to add a drone note to a bagpipe march.  I cannot figure out how to add a sustained note in the piece.  I would appreciate any help.

You need to enter the right number of bars with a whole note of the right pitch, each whole note tied to the next.

To do the tie, highlight the note and then press the slash key (/).  Remove the tie attribute from the last bar of your drone.

It's easiest to write the one bar, including the slash and the bar line, then highlight it and copy it using Ctrl-V.  If you hold the Ctrl-V keys down, you'll find it copies very quickly.

If you want the drone to be invisible, put it on a separate staff, and hide it using Page Setup.  Or you could put it on a layered staff and make the note visibility setting "never."

If the drone is more than one note, you can create a chord.  The help menu tells you how.

One correction, the sequence for copying is,
Highlight the tied note and bar,
Press CTL-C,
Press CTL-V as many time as you need bars.
The one small glitch here it that the focus remains on the first bar (that is where the copies are being placed.  If you need to match the number of bars with another staff you should hit "End" every bar or so, to move the insertion point to the end.

I've been trying some bagpipe music in NWC and droning.  Using ties on a separate staff worked fine except when the top staff was muted the drone staff wouldn't play - th eproblem appears to be with a tie that crosses the master repeat open.

An alternative that seems to work well is to use the pedal with the two note chord and then the appropriate number of bars with only rests.  I tried with no bars of rests but the drone staff doesn't stop when the tune stops.
