Newbie - What are the differences between each channel?

Channel 10 is generally best used for percussion.  Otherwise, I don't know the differences.

Channels are usually generic, with the exception of channel 10, as David points out. Channel 10 generally is a drum kit, and any remaining channels supported by the device are configured for instrumental parts. The Instrument Patch is usually used to control how a channel sounds.
