It would be really great if in some future update work was done on what NWC could connect to. When I first started using this program I had version 1.0 and its ease of use and its advanced scoring abilities put it way ahead of its competition. However, back then Creative were creating good cards with their sf2 technology.
But the world changes and while soundfonts are still available, virtual synths like Kontact 5 are allowing scoring programs and DAWs to create rich realistic sounds in their midi projects. Soundfonts are still out there but Creative went backwards and stopped their advances into music production. Soundfonts now are a part of the computer legacy of arcade games.
So, while, increased connectivity may never happen, I would regard that as a shame since NWC has many features that make it a contender for one of the better scoring packages.
Currently I am fleshing out a piece of music. I'm not concerned at the moment with whether a particular instrument could play the top notes I have written in; I'll address those issues in arrangement. I am using the SF2 format with "Virtual Midi Synth" and the top notes for my bassoon just aren't playing. The issue is not with the Soundfont. The same soundfont played this piece on the first version of NWC to be released and I've double checked it to make sure the samples and the note ranges are there. I can't seem to find any limiting feature on "Virtual Midi Synth" although I'm not certain of that. The only question left is whether NWC has some feature I have yet to discover that limits the instrument note range. Anyone?
Mr Richard Woodroffe... Sir... Your reply was more than just helpful. Within 10 minutes I had installed "Virtual Midi Synth" along with my soundfonts and was listening to my music as it was composed. In fact, this really should be stickied by Noteworthy Composer to defend itself and all new customers from that horrific throwback to the days of the Commodore 64 and the first computer game, "pong" that is that screeching, popping insult to the music world that is the "Microsoft GS Wavetable Synth".
I have USB Focusrite Scarlett 24/24 sound card/box and a lot of songs I wrote on NWC years ago. Recently I unearthed them but I haven't had a Creative sound card for years. I have the sf2 soundfonts I created for this music but all NWC sees is that horrible Microsoft Wavetable synth and my Focusrite sound card. I downloaded the SF2 player, Sforzando but either I'm trying to do something that cannot be done or I'm missing something. It would be a shame if all NWC could give me were arcade sounds. Anyone have any ideas?
