lyrics

I want to add lyrics to my score. The problem is, the lyrics
don't start until well into the piece. Is there a way to
skip whole sections of the score before adding the lyrics?

Don't know of any way to skip whole sections. I frequently create a line of underscore/spaces and then simply copy/paste, paste, paste as needed to fill the voids. Hope that helps.

Now you can select all the notes that won't have any lyrics, and specify it no to have any lyrics. Exit the tons of underscores.
(Select the notes, Ctrl+E or Alt+Enter, in "Notes" tab, select "Never" in Lyric Syllable list.)
