MIDI in/out with Notebooks

I mentioned this in https://forum.noteworthycomposer.com/?topic=892, but I think it deserves its own thread. Does anyone know of a laptop/notebook which has both MIDI in *and* out? Sue Morton's has only MIDI in, and Pico (England) don't have MIDI out (they say). Perhaps using a port replicator does the trick. Or is it simply an unfortunate limitation of the sound system incorporated in notebooks? A pity if this is the case - a fully configureable notebook and keyboard would be a formidable combination!

Hi Peter,

I ran into this site while searching the net for something else:

http://wholesalemusic.com/keyboard/midiman/index.html

They sell a serial in/out MIDI card for laptops, perhaps this will help.

I also found:

This fellow worked with a wavetable synth made for laptops by Roland... I haven't tracked down the specs on the actual card he mentions but perhaps if you checked it out it might have midi in/out built in.

Good Luck!

Sue

Thanks, Sue, I've had a look at your links - Verrry interesting! I'll certainly follow them up and post info on the Forum as and when.

Peter.

Soory for the late reply. I use a Twinhead Notebook for all of my music, and it supports the Midi in and out via the game port. I've never had a problem with it, and you are right, very formidable:-)
