Importing Cakewalk Files to NWC 1998-08-30 04:00 am I have never used Cakewalk, but have been offered some filescontaining MIDI and lyric information. The MIDI's I can now extract courtesy of a little ytilitycalled CAKE2MID, but I still have no way of viewing thelyrics embedded in the Cakewalk file. The impression I get is that Cakewalk is a Win95 application, whereas I only have Win3.1. I am very happy with NWC and would prefer not to have to buy another suite of programs.RegardsJohn Quote Selected
Re: Importing Cakewalk Files to NWC Reply #1 – 1998-08-31 04:00 am If you're, really after the lyrics, perhaps you could open the file with Notepad or Write and get the text out that way.A Quote Selected
Re: Importing Cakewalk Files to NWC Reply #2 – 1998-08-31 04:00 am Hooray! Another Win3.1x enthusiast!fyi - Cakewalk is available for Win 3.11 also. The files are portable between the Win3.1 and Win95 versions. The version I have is "Cakewalk Express V3.01." It came bundled (i.e. free) with my Audiotrix 3DXG sound card (by Mediatrix). Re: Importing Cakewalk Files to NWC Reply #3 – 1998-08-31 04:00 am Thanks for the replies to date, but as yet I don't have a viable solution. I have tried viewing the Cakewalk .wrkfile in a variety of text editors, but there is so muchgobbledy-gook that it is extremely difficult to separate the real lyrics without ambiguity. I guess that I wouldn't makea very good code cracker 'cos I can't see the any obviouspattern to differentiate between chords, control charactersand the real text. Thank you Andrew.Yes Fred, I am a Win 3.1 enthusiast, but probably morebecause I'm not an early adopter - or don't have the wherewithal to be one. This may be one occasion howeverwhere the odds of picking up a 16 bit version seem to be lengthening somewhat. My local distributor tells me thatCakewalk now only sells the 32 bit versions. In the absenceof any other ideas, my only thought is to find a sharewaresite which, like me, has not quite kept up with the times. No luck to date though.Your ideas would be appreciated.RegardsJohn Quote Selected
Re: Importing Cakewalk Files to NWC Reply #4 – 1998-08-31 04:00 am John - How many Cakewalk.wrk files do you have?If there's not too many - zip them up - send them over and I'll extract your lyrics for you - I assume you can handle the MIDI conversion OK - so you can get the notes but not the lyrics.Barry Quote Selected

Re: Importing Cakewalk Files to NWC Reply #6 – 1998-09-07 04:00 am I did a websearch and found Windows 3.1 versions all over the internet. 16-bit and 32-bit versions are on the same CD-ROM. Why not just download the demo version. The only function disabled is save. Maybe you could still copy lyrics though.KenJ Quote Selected
