tie & slur

I have a problem with ties and slurs, the sound usually doesnt’t stop.

Somebody told me that I must check flats, sharps and the other symbol (natural) that I don’t know the name in english into the bar lines.

I did that but the problem sometimes continuous. I misunderstood or I didn’t check well?

I am sorry for my english.

Slurs have no effect on playback. Before you tie two notes, make sure they both have the same accidentals (sharp, flat or natural). You can't fix the notes after they are tied, so untie them, fix the accidentals, then re-tie them.

Don't be sorry for your English. It is much better than I can speak in any other language.

Actually, you _can_ fix the accidentals while the notes are tied. Simply select the "tied-to" note, and observe the status of the accidentals radio buttons. You can click the appropriate button (or use keyboard 7, 8, 9) to correct any errors.

"Slurs have no effect on playback."

Fortunately this is not exact. All notes affected by a slur are played legato, while note not slurred are played tenuto or marcato or... well, not legato.

Thanks to this it is much easier to attain a good phrasing in NWC than in other programs.

I was not aware of the effect of slurs. I tend to make the whole song legato, because I think it sounds better, so the effect of slurs is lost.

How do you make the whole song legato?

You can insert a performance style legato command, but I'm not sure how effective it is, not having tried it.

Legato is useful for a host of things. To simulate staccato, tenuto, precede the passage with legato, make the notes staccato, center a text underscore (of the proper font, size, and position) on each note. Add semplice at the end to cancel the legato. You will want to make legato and  semplice invisible.
