New to this software, few q's...

I have so much original piano music and none of it notated.  All I'm looking to do is create piano sheet music of the treble and bass clefs.

I have a few questions/problems that hopefully someone can help me with.

1.  Whenever I record from my midi piano (Yamaha DGX-505) the software notates my playing as chords.  Say Im playing a a broken triad but holding all the notes. The software still notates this as a chord even though this isnt what I played.

2. I cant get the software to split right and left hands in the notations, I get both parts in the treble clef. How can I fix this?

Please help, Im very new to this software and music recording in general.

Save the midi file, then open/import it.  The 2nd screen of the import wizard allows you to adjust the maximum chord size.  This will give you two clefs.  Not perfect, but a start.

You might also try the chord splitter utility from the Scriptorium http://nwc-scriptorium.org/.  I've never used it, but heard good things about it.

MIDI recording takes your input literally, sometimes not the way it would be notated and then interpreted by a musician reading the score.  To get the recorded broken chord to notate properly from your recorded keyboard input, you must not hold down all the keys in your broken chord, but release each key as you play the next note in the broken chord, holding down only one key at a time.  You will then have to edit the recorded score for proper playback by adding pedal down and pedal up marks to get the now properly notated broken chord to sustain the notes.  You may choose to set visibility for the pedal marks to Never if you don't want them to print in the score.

Re: Question 2.
See if you can set your Yamaha to transmit treble clef range notes on one MIDI channel and bass clef range notes on another MIDI channel.  Then in NWC in Tools-Options click on the Import tab and make sure the check box is checked for Track Splitting Options, Separate MIDI channels.  That should split your recording into treble and bass clefs.  Or you could record right and left hand parts separately on two passes.
