Hymn Mode

Is there a hymn mode that I am, as yet, unaware of?

Such a mode would require:

1. Layering or sharing of Lyrics so that you could write once for all parts.  I know you can just put all of the lyrics in the alto part, but then you can't check the ties, slurs and multiple syllables per note settings for the other parts.

2. For the unlayared staff alternative, a direct piano reduction of the SATB parts.  My choir director asked for this for a hymn/chorale of mine for which separate staffs made for a clearer presentation.  I couldn't see how to do this without a lot of copying and pasting.  I wouldn't want to try this for something I haven't completed.

Also, has anyone looked into the possibility of added speech generation to NWC?  Does MIDI even allow for this?  That would make NWC perfect for me: to be able to hear the words instead of just oohs and aahhs.

"Is there a hymn mode"... No.

"...has anyone looked into the possibility of added speech generation to NWC?" ... I doubt it.  I haven't seen any suggestion like this in several years of this forum.

You should post your suggestions/requests to the wish list.

Speech generation would be a total change to the program, I'm sure. That's like, "Has anyone thought of adding four wheel drive and a dual-carb, V8 engine to my Subaru."

Hey, Robert -- I don't know about your Subaru, but mine already has 4-wheel drive.

A friend of mine has a keyboard that he uses for swing band rehearsals that "sings" doo, bah, dot, wow, and maybe a few other syllables.  Having that in NWC would be so awesome!

Hmm, anyone feel like writing some sound fonts?  ;-}

Not that I would ever give up using NWC for its many advantages over even the "industry standards", but if you want your computer to sing words, try Myriad Software's Harmony Assistant with Virtual Singer.  You can download a free trial version including Virtual Singer at :
