Rhythms

When I look at a midi file in "MidiNotate", the rhythms are displayed rather accurately. For example, in "MidiNotate", a triplet is displayed as 3 eighth notes with a 3 above them. When I import the same midi file in NWC the triplet becomes a 16th, an eighth and a 16th. Is there anyway to correct this?

nope it is one of the very few shortcomings of noteworthy that you can't

There's no way NWC will import triplets and notate them correctly, but you can make necessary change to the imported file. Highlight the notes you want to change, pull down the edit menu and hit triplet. Not only are they notated correctly, but they play correctly too.

Hi Mary,
the only problem is that the notes must add up to a time duration that is perfectly divisible by 3 "standard note lengths" before the "tripletise" function is available. On imported midis this is not always the case and hand editing must occur first. E.G. I have a copy of "Amazing Grace" that imports some triplets as "dotted 16th, dotted 16th, 16th" - they need to be changed to straight 8th's before you can tripletise 'em.

Improved import is very desirable in my view.

Some of used to use the old Windows key-stroke Recorder to fix triplets. It disappeared with the release of Win 98.
Does anyone know if it works with XP?
I still have a copy but I run Win98 so I can't test it.

Oops.. I missed out one step.. yes, Lawrie, I agree.. so you have to change the notes to eighth notes before you use the triplet tool. Although I do not use NWC to import files, I agree that improved imprt would be very desirable for those who do.

If you have NWC2 Andrew Purdam has written a user tool that works very well to address this.
