midi channel

in noteworthy composer2 a problem has arisen(at least with my copy) in that when i switch a staffs midi channel to 10 ,in order to make it the percussion section, what happens is that the staff plays back as a timpani execpt for the 2nd D below middle C which sounds like a snare drum. I fixed the problem by switching to a 2nd sound card but i was wondering what causes the screw up on the standard card.

Not exacty sure what you mean, but I wil guess.

You have changed the CHANNEL, but you didn't change the Instrument (sounds like a line from Poltergeist). This probably means that instead of using the STANDARD1 drum set (PC1), you are probably using one that includes the timpani. That patch happens to be PC49 ORCHESTRA so you probably had the channel set to STRINGS just before that.

Make sure you set the Instrument to #1 (or Piano). It seems silly to set the patch to piano for drums, but that's how it works. Of course, if you want a different drum set, consult a complete list of percussion instruments for your device.
