Looks like it does.  Glad to see it back up and running.

With the red message gone, I wonder how much we've got bottled up.

And that reminds me... Was the newsgroup server down today (Jan 12), or is it that I've tangled my newsreader?

I was afraid of that. My computer has VERY tight security, and normally won't let me get to a newsgroup. But for a short period of time recently, it allowed access. Oh, well. I've lived without it this long.

What program are you using?  I finally figured out how to access them using Outlook Express, but GrabIt seems to be a decent program too, and might get you past your security problem.

Not to worry. I had it working - briefly. No doubt I re-set something that I shouldn't have. The security is not really a problem, since it is self-imposed (thus, avoiding hundreds of other potential problems). As for newgroup by e-mail, forget it!

Robert, you access our newsgroup via the standard NNTP port, which is 119. You must be doing something in your firewall that blocks your access to this port. I'm not sure why blocking your own access to port 119 offers you much in the ways of protection, unless you are also blocking your own access to e-mail servers (generally a more probable way of getting a PC virus infection).

Firewall is not the problem (not now - it was until last week, when I was able to apply some settings that coordinated with new server software at my ISP). Last week, I was able to get to the newsgroup with new settings. But I did something in the meantime to block myself. Just now, I figured out what it was, and got back into the newsgroup. (You will see 2 replies there now, issued today.) Problem solved. I never had to use such tight settings; it was my own choice.

Incidentally, in Mozilla Thunderbird, after setting up a newsgroup account, one must open its properties and check a box requesting authentication each time. This option is not presented when the account is set up. That may have been part of the problem (as I get older, my ability to self-solve such oddities varies from day to day). The other part of the problem was that the Thunderbird dialog box asking for account name looks just like the one that asks for password, if you don't have your glasses on. :(
