feature request: measure compression

I think NWC really needs a measure compression feature, because at the staff size '16' it's impossible to print three measures per system if the whole measure is sixteenth notes, I had to reduce the staff size to '14', and it still doesn't work if the measure has lots of accidentals, (had to change the staff size to '12' to get it to fit)

No a bad idea, aothough with simple 16th notes, flags up and beamed or flags down and beamed, size 16, I get 3 measures per line on print preview.

Spillover takes place when the notes are stem up and not beamed because those notes take up more space.

FWIW, I regularly print parts with a staff size of 12, and my band members don't have any problems reading it.  It also reduces the number of page turns for the piano and bass players (and saves trees).  You may not need to use larger sized settings.

Never say "impossible."  At staff size 19, I managed to fit three measures of sixteenth notes on one line, and that was even the first line - with a staff label.  Of course, it is a workaround, but I still managed to do it.
But, I really would like some sort of measure compression feature, so I wouldn't have to use the workaround.

I use letter size, 8.5 x 11, the standard in my part of the world.  A4 is a little narrower.

Hmm,
8.5" wide (US letter) versus 210mm (A4) - that's just under 6mm difference.  You could narrow the margins on an A4 configuration by 3mm per side to get the same print width.

I agree, Lawrie, it doesn't seem to make much difference widthwise whether it's letter or A4 size.  With A4 you might squeeze an extra staff onto a page since A4 is a little longer.
