Composition Contest 2004-11-12 01:58 am ONE OF THE "OTHER" NOTATION SOFTWARE GROUPS RAN A COMPOSING CONTEST WHERE THEY POSTED A FAMOUS PAINTING, AND THE IDEA WAS TO WRITE A PIECE THAT IN THE (MUSICAL) ARTISTS MIND CAPTURED THE ESSENCE OF THE WORK. I THOUGHT IT WAS KIND OF NEAT. THERE WERE ENTRIES FROM ALL OVER THE WORLD. SORT OF BRINGS THE CONTEMPORARY COMPOSER WORLD A LITTLE CLOSER TOGETHER. WE NOTEWORTHY LOVERS I'M SURE HAVE A LOT IN COMMON. PERHAPS AFTER THE NEW VERSION IS RELEASED. SEEING THE WAY OTHERS USE THE PROGRAM AND THEIR INGENIOUS WAYS AROUND OBSTACLES WOULD BE INTERESTING AND BENEFICIAL TO ALL.JUST A THOUGHT. Quote Selected
Re: Composition Contest Reply #1 – 2004-11-12 04:47 pm I'm familiar with what you have described (I also have that software, and like it).My understanding is that many of the users of the other software are semi-professional musicians - the audio capabilities are often used for performance. Not a lot of learners. I've had this software and NWC for about 5 years, but I wouldn't compete! On the other hand, many NWC users are students, music educators, or writers of sacred music. In most cases, the music would intrude upon the copyrights of a third party if it were exhibited publicly. Even for those whose compositions are truly original, the writers of sacred music might feel it was inappropriate to put the music in competition with other kinds of music. That's my USD$0.02 worth. Re: Composition Contest Reply #2 – 2004-11-12 05:03 pm I compose both sacred and secular music. Perhaps two categories, as well as, perhaps, two categories: instrumental and vocal. Quote Selected
Re: Composition Contest Reply #3 – 2004-11-12 06:22 pm That reminds me: There is also a NWC users group. Its members communicate with each other via news feed (it cannot be read by non-members). For technical reasons I can't get there, myself. But it is my understanding that most of the active NWC users are there. That would be the right place to discuss a competition! Quote Selected
Re: Composition Contest Reply #4 – 2004-11-14 12:47 am Dear Robert, Thanks for your input. I have been unable to find anything about that users group via news feed although I do remember reading something about it a long time ago. If you know how to get in touch please let me know.I also write secular and sacred music you're right in saying that the two probably would not compete against each other in the same venue, however Robins idea of seperate categories might work. I am not afraid to share my sacred music with anyone. It does no good to be filed away on my computer. I would be thrilled if others would want to make use of it in their worship services or youth groups. Thanks again, and also to Robin! Quote Selected
Re: Composition Contest Reply #5 – 2004-11-14 03:23 am I was thinking of this:https://www.noteworthysoftware.com/newsgroup/signup.phpThere was also a separate (concealed) newsgroup during the pre-public beta test of NWC2. Quote Selected
