Song files not show in Open dialog box

I've been using NWC for several years and I love it. Recently I've noticed that not all my NWC files are showing up when I use the File/Open dialog box. I can use Windows Explorer and see the missing files in my directory. I can even double-click any of the files and they will open in NWC. But from inside the program, NWC sees only a sub-set of the total NWC files in the directory. Any ideas?

Are there scroll bars in the Open box? Try changing your view of the files. On the top right of the Open box, a drop down is available. Try using List or Details as your view.

Having been a computer engineer for a "few" years, I am very familiar with the interface; there is no place for the files to hide that I can't find *grin*, however, the files just do not exist in the File Open dialog within NWC. I have even saved one of the disappearing songs and then not been able to see it after closing and re-opening NWC. As I said before, I can find it with Windows Explorer, double-click it and NWC will open that song. The song is physically in the correct directory, but NWC is unable to see it. (More than one song is affected, but not all songs.)

The File Open dialog is actually provided by Windows (although at the request of NWC). I don't know why it wouldn't show you some files.

Well, obviously, that shouldn't be happening.
But, what if you create a new folder alongside 'Samples' and copy all .NWC files into it, then change the path within the NWC program via 'Tools', 'Options', 'Folders',  change the Song Files path to new Folder.

Does it find them ?

Is it anything to do with files saved using an older version of NWC?

Windows would not know anything about what version of NWC saved the file. Do the files have "Hidden" or "Read-only" properties?

Possible explanation: Your files are not in the folder where you think they are. This can happen in one of several ways.

Maybe you saved a file to a folder different from where you usually put it.

Maybe you have two folders with the same name, but in different locations. For example, maybe you have "Mysongs" as sub-folder in "My Documents" and also in "My Music" and also in "Recent Projects."

Maybe you have a multi-user system. In that case, when you log on as "Joe" you may not be able to see files accessible to user "Jack."

My recommendation is to use Windows search, to find all files with the *.nwc extension (or *.mid if you also want to find those).
