Single melody line

I discovered Noteworthy during a web search and it was highly recommended. I downloaded the trial version to see if I could figure out how to use it, and if it would meet my needs.  So far I am very impressed and am seriously considering buying it.

I am not going to be writing complicated pieces of music, at this point.  For now, I will be converting pieces of music into a larger printed format for young children to read easily and adding notations, etc.  I attempted to create a simple piece of music with just a simple melody line, but when I print it, the staves are all connected and when I select play, both lines play at the same time as if they are two separate parts.  I checked the Staff properties and it indicates each staff is a standard staff.

Also, in this particular piece, the first line is an intro and then the second line starts the beginning of a section that repeats.  When I insert the beginning repeat bar into the second line, it alters the spacing of the first measure in the first line (4 quarter notes) so that the first of 4 quarter notes is separated from the other 3 notes.

Is this making any sense?  In other words, I want to create just a simple melody so that each line prints separately, and when played, each line plays in sequence not as a 2 or 3 part piece.  Is this possible?
Thanks

It sounds like you are trying to add multiple staves to notate a single part. In NWC, the system layout is performed when you print. A single part should be notated with a single staff. You can control where a system break occurs by using the Force System Break option on bar lines.

Try looking at the samples if you do not understand this. The samples should make it clear.

In particular, open the REPEAT* samples. It helps a lot! (yes, it still helps me too)
