Replacing midi file made in NWC on Yahoo list home page 2002-11-08 03:18 pm Hi all,I have an extensive number of (Dutch) midi hymns made with NCW which I publish on own Yahoo home page for my 750 member Yahoo e-mail list. Sometimes I need to replace one of these for a better version, so I delete the old version. When I upload the new version, surprise, the old version comes back. I know that this is not a proper question here, but Yahoo doesn't have a forum like this. If anyone knows a way around this problem, I'd be very grateful.Jan J.H.HoflandThe Netherlandsjjh.hofland@planet.nl Quote Selected
Re: Replacing midi file made in NWC on Yahoo list home page Reply #1 – 2002-11-08 03:53 pm When you say that the old file comes back, do you mean that there are two copies, one old, one new? If so, do they have identical file names, or is there a version distinction in the filename? If there are two distinct files, try this: Create a dummy NWC file with the same file name as the old one. But instead of music, it should contain a notice (written in text) that the file is obsolete, and that a newer version is available.Upload the dummy file, and hope that it over-writes the old file. Then, upload the new file.Although I don't use the same system you do, once in a while someone links directly to a ZIP file on my own web site, rather than to the HTML page listing the file. If I update the ZIP file to a new version, I replace the content of the older ZIP file with a text message directing the user to the correct location for the new file. Quote Selected
Re: Replacing midi file made in NWC on Yahoo list home page Reply #2 – 2002-11-08 07:55 pm Hi Robert,In the meantime, I found out that giving the new file a different name, there's no problem. Except that the new file with the new name (just added a "b" to the file name -and this works!)sorta blows the logical order of files and with 300 or so items, this bugs me as this will confuse the people looking for this specific file (the number of the hymn number). I tried to change the name of the file back to the old one on the website, but then I get the old (unwanted) file again. Doesn't this rot your socks ?!:-). My new try is to wait a day before uploading the new file - perhaps the Yahoo computer takes a while to register the removal of the old file. All the same, thank you for your ideas. Nice to know someone is thinking along.Jan Quote Selected
Re: Replacing midi file made in NWC on Yahoo list home page Reply #3 – 2002-11-09 02:57 am Perhaps the old file remains stored in your cache and this is the file played back when you access the new one on the web page!Try clearing the cache or temp. internet files. Quote Selected
Re: Replacing midi file made in NWC on Yahoo list home page Reply #4 – 2002-11-09 10:34 am Thanks Barry,Sure enough, I removed the trashed files and the temp file and bingo. I can now replace the old NCW midi files by improved ones on the internet and keep the same file name.Jan Quote Selected
