Length of Bar-line

May I know how to increase or reduce the length of two different bar-lines?  Thanks.

1) Bar-line which already have notes on

2) A new add empty bar-line (Want to insert Text on. If length is too short, can't put text like guitar solo, keyboard solo,...etc)

You can put text in with the "Preserve Width" box checked. It will then take as much space as it needs.

If you just want more space at a given position for whatever reason, you can enter a text item consisting of a string of spaces, again with Preserve Width on.

Thank you very much Fred,

Th length of the bar line for Text is clear for me. But how to reduce the length of a bar-line length which already has notes? I'm not very clear how to do it.

PS: Because there are some bar-line only has 2, 3 notes but a lot of space after the last note, I don't want that bar line are too long.

Thanks a lot.

Hello Andy,
You can't usually add much to what Fred says, but maybe things didn't come over too clearly: every time you say "bar line" I'm thinking you mean "bar" or "measure".

Juggling with the "Preserve Width" feature Fred mentioned should be enough if you're dealing with text.  There shouldn't be any excessive space after the last note of the bar or between any two notes unless:
1.You're on two staves and one staff has a bunch of, say, quavers, to be played at the same time as a minim on the other staff. (But then you'd need the space)
2. You've put in text based stuff between notes and left "preserve width" checked.  Uncheck "preserve width" and the text overlaps the note sequence, which remains unbroken

But maybe you just can't stand wasting any space at all. So  There's one more thing you can do.  Go to File-Page Setup-Options(tab) and uncheck "Increase note spacing for larger note duration". Now, unless it's necessary (no. 1 above), half notes and whole notes anywhere in the bar will not be followed by more space than quarter notes and eighth notes.

Thanks Michael,

I'm not sure if page setup is work in my case or not.

First,  Please assume there is only one instrument because I use this to make my own music sheet after transcript a saxophone solo

Actual what I mean is there is a new added measure (or bar-line if I press on Tab) on the same instrument. An example is:

Only one instrument, the bar-line is added from left to right:

1, 2, (3), 4, 5, (6), 7, ..etc

I want to reduce bar-line ((3) & (6) length if it has only have very few notes.  Usually I see a lot of space after the last note if the bar-line only has very few notes.
