You can use either the same note for chord member command with stems in same direction or you use different note but its stem must be in different direction and also the note must be either on highest position or on the lowest one of a chord.
How you can put half note between two quarter notes in a chord, that it would look and sound the same on staff?

AFAIK, you can't with a single staff, at least with 1.75 version.
But it's possible: you just need to use a 2nd staff, and overlay the two staves. (in File/Page setup, check the "allow layering" box; and for the highest staff of the two, set its properties (F2) to layering (in the Visual tab, check the "Layer with next staff" box).
Then enter the half in one staff, and the quarters in the second. (you could also enter one quarter and the half in one staff, and the other quarter in the second staff)

Do not forget to add a hidden rest after the quarters in the second staff, if needed.

The new staff should be assigned the same midi channel than the other, if you want it to sound the same :)

If I'm not clear enough, don't hesitate to ask me a sample file.

Hope this helps!
