computer powers off

I have recently made some upgrades on my computer (new motherboard, RAM, and windows xp) and now suddenly am having problems with noteworthy.  After a few minutes of playing music in noteworthy my computer suddenly loses power.  I have tried different power supplies and searched for answers all over.  I haven't had this problem while running other programs (yet).  Any ideas?

This sounds like a cooling problem. If your system has inadequate cooling, it would be prone to overheating during NWC play back. If your motherboard includes the ability to monitor internal temperatures, you should do this.

As for NWC, for a short term fix, you might try disabling the "Chase playing notes" in Tools, Options, Editor tab. This will considerably decrease the CPU load during NWC play back.

Longer term, if you confirm that your PC has a cooling issue, you should look into improving ventilation or other cooling strategies for the system. Improper cooling can dramatically shorten the life of your system's components.

I had the very same problem. I tried everything I could think of but nothing helped. Till I read the NWC reply. I opened my computer and checked if all cooling fans were running - they were (there are three fans, one on the casing, one on the CPU chip and one on the casing of the power unit). So everything seemed ok, till I noticed that especially the CPU fan was clogged up with dirt.  With a small screwdriver I loosened up as much of the dirt as possible and used the vacuum cleaner to finish the job.  And that did the trick! Even the longest files, some of them 20 minutes long, are played back faultlesly.

Dirt on and in the CPU fan could very well be your problem, especially if all fans are running. Of course you should disconnect the power before working on the fan(s)and do not try to remove the CPU fan!  If it's not running, let an expert replace it.

Rereading you problem, it seems likely that dirt is not your problem since you recently replaced the motherboard. You either mounted a new CPU fan or at least cleaned it if you used the one you had.  In that case, you'd have to find out if it's adequate for your new motherboard,
