bar lines and whole rests 2002-02-08 05:00 am I've been writing songs purely for printing purposes.I have a song where the lyric staff(top) has no notes in it for the last four measures of the song. So I wanted to put four measures with a whole rest in each one to fill up the end of the score. But when I do this, the bar lines don't match up with the ones on my other staves. I just want the score to look uniformed, but my top staff is now shorter than my other two, even though they have the same amount of beats. Am I just overlooking something? If someone can please help me i would really appreciate it. (I hope I explained the problem enough)Thanks, jmb Quote Selected

Re: bar lines and whole rests Reply #2 – 2002-02-08 05:00 am Maybe there is a measure which doesn't have the same amount of beats.Did you check each staff with the "audit Bar lines" Tool?? (Alt t, b)This require to have a "Time Signature" (g shortkey, menu Insert|time siGnature), which must be on each and every staves.(Note: if the first measure is incomplete (anachrouse), fill it with hidden rests first)Note to Support: I just tried (with vocalacc template), and if the time sig. is added only on first staff, then the audit doesn't work properly (try with 7 quarters plus 3 whole rests on top staff, and 20 on staves 2 and 3). Add the 4/4 sig. on top staff only; audit bar line on staff 2, then 3, then 1. re-audit staff 1. Re-Re-audit staff one. The whole rests are changed to dotted half rest plus a quarter rest, one each time)Note to the previous note: I just retried from scratch, and couldn't reproduce it?? I must have done something on the first try. But the strange behaviour happened, even if I'm not able to reproduce it now Found out: insert a bar line before each rest, but without any time sig. (or with, it does apply too)Conclusion: make sure you have set time signature to EACH staff BEFORE inserting bar lines. Quote Selected

Re: bar lines and whole rests Reply #4 – 2002-02-08 05:00 am Thank you! I audited the bar lines, and realized when I changed a measuer to 2/4 time, I forgot to change it back to 4/4! As you can tell, I'm new to writing music, I'm a self taught musician and I just recently learned how to read (music, that is [ha ha]), and what I know about writing I've learnd through NWC. I really appreciate your help. It's saved me a trip to the looney bin!!!Thanks again, jmb Quote Selected
