Stereo Pan and Channel Sharing semi-Bug

(while I'm still here...)

Seems that the stero pan in [Staff Properties] is ineffective when two staves share the same channel (even when the effect is set for both channels). However, stereo pan for the staves/channel works when set as MPCs. Other effects might be affected in this way, but I have yet to check.

If you try to set stereo pan and volume on more than one staff that shares the same MIDI channel, you are creating a value collision. Only one value is going to end up being used, and it may not be the one you want. This situation is similar (but not exactly like) having two people dialing on one phone line. If you setup two or more staves that share the same MIDI channel, you need to decide which one of the staves is going to control MIDI functions like stereo pan and volume. After you decide, only change these settings in that staff, and not any of the other staff parts. This will avoid value collisions and unpredictable behavior. You can use Score Review to find staves that share the same MIDI port/channel.

Forgot to mention that the effect settings were the *same* for both channels. Only when both staves contained the same effect settings through MPCs did the expected effect take place for the channel.

I have also occasionally found that a staff on its own channel sometimes refuses to pan correctly. I've found no rhyme nor reason to when this occurs. I've "fixed" it by trying yet another unused channel.
