Transposition

This sounds a silly question but neither I nor a friend have been able to solve it: When I transpose a staff in C major up a semitone it appears in C sharp major. How can I force it to appear in D flat??

You can solve this problem in 4 steps:

1. Transpose the staff up 1 semitone (from C major to C# major).

2. Choose Force Accidentals from the Tools menu. This places an accidental with every note on the staff, whether it is taken care of by the key signature or not.

3. Replace the C# key signature with a Db signature.

4. Transpose the staff up (or down) 0 (zero) semitones.

This should allow transposition to the key of Db major and can be applied to the similar dilemmas of transposing to Gb and Cb.
