Extra Channels? 2000-08-05 04:00 am Does Noteworthy support more than 16 channels, or is there a plugin/modification that forces noteworthy to use more than 16? I'm using a Yamaha SW1000XG card, which has 32 part compatibility, and I'd like to use the other 16 channels available. If Noteworthy doesn't support 16 channels, then that's deffinently something Noteworthy -needs-. Re: Extra Channels? Reply #1 – 2000-08-05 04:00 am Unfortunately, that's not something that has anything to do with NoteWorthy. Rather, the 16-channel per device limitation is a characteristic of the GM (General Midi, not Motors) specification.Of course, if you have additional devices, you can map them for additional banks of 16 channels. In Tools -> Options -> Midi Tab, your total playback devices will be shown on the left, and the ones made available for NWC on the right. Most people will set this to the midi-mapper, so that whatever device is assigned in midi-mapper will automagically be used by NWC. Note, however, that the midi-mapper only allows a single device. (Isn't Windows wonderful?) To NWC's credit, you can use the actual devices themselves. For instance, you could put both your MPU-401 device and also the OPL-3 FM synth into the right pane, giving you 32 channels (2 sets of 16). Then, in the Staff Properties -> Midi tab you can assign which device is used for every staff.Note that your sound card has up to 32 voices, not channels. That means you could (theoretically, at least) have up to two notes playing on each channel at any particular time; more than that, and notes will be dropped. (This is also called the card's "polyphony".) This is /not/ the same as the number of midi channels! Quote Selected
Re: Extra Channels? Reply #2 – 2000-08-05 04:00 am No. The card has up to 1,267 voices, 64 note polyphony, and 32 parts. You're thinking of a soundcard. This is a tone generator card. When using XGedit, it allows editing for 32 seperate instruments (parts/channels).--For anyone who's interested, go to http://www.mp3.com/jdharding to hear music composed using Noteworthy.
