transposing for a b-flat instrument

I have to transpose something in "Es" and I was wondering if that is E-flat or just E. Thanks!

"Es" is E-flat. "B" (in German scores) is B-flat. You can usually tell from a score what the transposition is; for example, if the un-transposed instruments are in Eb (three flats) and the transposed instrument is shown with a key signature of C (i.e. three steps sharper), then the instrument must be in Eb. Another example: if the violins, etc. are in Eb and the transposed instrument is shown in Bb (one step sharper), then the instrument must be an F instrument. And so on.

Just to clear some things up, Es and B are very generally used as markings for E-flat and B-flat. Only English-speaking countries use the -flat markings. All European countries except for the UK use the Es and Bb markings.

...just in case...

...except France, Italy, Spain (I suppose Portugal too) that use Mi bemol and Si bemol for the above.
