joined staves...how to unjoin

I have written a refrain and a verse and when I press play they are playing at the same time. I can't remove the line that joins them together...any ideas?

Fran, it sounds as though you have attempted to use NWC as a wsiwyg program - it isn't - the screen display is a continuous line. What you have probably got at the moment is a second stave linked to the first, which then plays at the same time. To get your refrain to play after the verse, it must be written following the verse in the linear stave as shown on the screen. If you look at the Print Preview (in the File drop down menu), it will be clear as to how your final music is laid out, and you can then determine the true position of your lyric and verse lines.
