Pitch for Playback

Just a simple question, perhaps asked before but I can't find the answer:

When NWC plays back a tune, are the notes tuned to Concert Pitch (A = 440 Cycles per second) or what. How exact is it?

NWC playback is General Midi, either through the MIDI device that you have configured in NWC, or through the Midi Mapper for NW Player (I think).

Normally, everyday General Midi devices would be "tuned" to A=440 BUT
1) the instrument patches CAN vary
2) you may have a MIDI device that is set up differently (normally through some global "Master Tuning" thingy)

If you can get onto the newsgroup, there has been a huge discussion about woodwinds and the different versions of "Concert" pitch (A=440, 445 etc...)
