Getting drums on different staffs

Hi there,

First of all thank you for answering my earlier question regarding drums.
Now I was wondering is there any way to get drums on say the 3rd or 4th staff instead of just the 10th? Its very annoying having so many blank staffs just to have drums.

Thanks

The number of staves is not important. You need to set the MIDI channel to 10 for any staff that should play drums. This is done via Staff Properties (F2). Start a new song using one of the Rhythm templates, then open Tools | Score Review and you will see that the channel is the important technique for triggering drums.

Al,

You seem to be confusing staves with channels.

Each staff in the score would represent one instrument or a section of the same instruments (1 trumpet, 3 flutes or all the fingers in the left hand of a piano part for example).

The output from a staff in NWC is directed to one of a possible 16 channels which you select in the Midi Tab of the Staff Properties dialogue.
The Playback Instrument that produces the instrumental sound on the selected channel is selected in the same dialogue.

Except in the case of the Percussion Channel (usually Channel 10).
By selecting this channel your notes are no longer pitched but represent individual percussion sounds of a range of percussion instruments.
Unless you use a sound card that selects drum sets by playback instrument you should select <none> as the playback instrument.
Any staff can be directed to any channel and the sound produced by that channel is selected by the playback instrument assigned to that channel
You can direct several staves to share the same channel but note that they will also share the same sound unless you direct the output from each staff to a different output device.

Hope this helps.
