Turtle Beach ?? 1998-07-25 04:00 am Does anyone have experience with the Turtle Beach 'Pinnacle' card? Considering this as a possible upgrade, getting rather tired of the cheesy SB16 sounds. Another possibility is a dedicated synth module; any recommendations? Quote Selected
Re: Turtle Beach ?? Reply #1 – 1998-07-25 04:00 am Hi Fred, I can't offer you any help, but I too am thinking about upgrading to TB Fiji or Pinnacle. Reviews all seem good about TB products, reviews about Creative's AWE 32 or 64 Gold all say it is way overrated, but a good value for the money...Any recommendations, experiences? I too am interested in the opinions on this Forum. Thanks! Quote Selected
Re: Turtle Beach ?? Reply #2 – 1998-08-03 04:00 am WAVmaker is the most AWESOME program on the web for rendering MIDI to CD-quality WAV files. I have had very good experience with it. (Do a search on WAVmaker at http://www.yahoo.com) However, it takes a long time to render MIDI's, and WAVs are huge files. Also condsider the MIDInight Express for faster rendering. (As soon as you export a mid file, you can listen to it. Go to http://www.polyhedric.com) It is cheaper but slightly less quality. These programs are enough to satisfy my wants for high quality sound and they are much cheaper than another sound card. I have an AWE64 Value and the quality of these programs surpasses the best that the card can do.However, they do not play back MIDs like a Wavetable sound card does. You would need to export your files to MID before you could listen to them. Consequently you can not listen and watch the music at the same time. Quote Selected
Re: Turtle Beach ?? Reply #3 – 1998-08-14 04:00 am I've just done a comparison for our local school music department who scraped up enough cash to fund three new computers and midi keyboards. After trying out a few including my sons' AWE32 we went for the Turtle Beach Malibu Surround 64. The results have been really impressive particularly when played through a mixer into a decent amplifier, almost broadcast quality. The school are using them with Windows 95 but they also come with drivers for 3.11 and NT4. Quote Selected
