Midi problem - adding notes not entered

I have connected noteworthy with my Yamaha PSR-E303 with my computer running Microsoft xp using a M-Audio Midisport interface.  Everything looks ok and when I press a key on the yamaha the note appears in noteworthy.  But..another note, 5 octaves below middle C is also displayed.   Has anyone had this problem before?

Do you have a note doubling feature enabled on the keyboard? If not, there might also be a fault in the MIDI interface. This kind of thing used to happen with older, faulty MPU401 style MIDI interfaces, but I have not seen this kind of thing with the modern MIDI interfaces.

If there is a note doubling feature, I can't find a reference in the manual.  The interface was purchased a couple of years ago so it ought to be okay.   Thanks for trying.

If the secondary note matches the note that you are entering, then this would tend to indicate some kind of feature on the keyboard.

If the secondary note is random, then this would tend to indicate a fault, either in the driver, the cable, the interface, or the keyboard.

The added note is not random.  It is always the C 5 octaves below middle C. I think this is a value that denotes something that MIDI uses...but am not sure.

You are describing the lowest note in the MIDI protocol. Do you have Echo MIDI Input enabled in Tools, Options, Record?

If so, turn it off and see if that helps.

If not, you need to isolate what is causing the C0 note trigger.

Turn auto accompaniment off (pg 23)
Turn Harmony off (pg 40)

Try each PC Mode (pg 60)
  • off
  • PC1
  • PC2

If none of that solves the problem, you ought to be able to use MIDI-Yoke to route the events through MIDI-OX.
A MIDI-OX filter can remove the bad events from the stream.

Some idea of what setting up MIDI-Yoke and MIDI-OX involves is <here>.

If it is important enough to you, install Yoke and OX and get them to pass the MIDI stream from the keyboard to NoteWorthy. If you get that far, drop a note here and I will help you with filtering.

A Google search revealed a review (on Amazon) of the M-Audio Midisport Uno MIDI interface stating that it was incompatible with the Yamaha PSR line of keyboards.  While you don't mention if it is the Uno version of the Midisport interface, this review does raise a question about the combination of equipment.  The issue you are having, coupled with this additional insight, may warrant a call to M-Audio to see if there may be a hardware issue involved.  Good luck in getting this all resolved!

Good news!  My problem is fixed!  I called M-Audio, explained my problem, told them I purchased the interface in a store.  They indicated that there has been a revision in the interface cable. I shipped it to them they sent a new one that works!  It took quite a while, they indicated that they were swamped.  But, it works. Thanks to all who replied to my post, expecially the one who mentioned a review in Amazon.  Thanks!
