How do you make an instrument sound distorted?

This one guy wants me to write him a song thats "highly distorted." How do I go about doing that?

'Overdriven Guitar' and 'Distortion Guitar' are good patches for this.
Random MPC Pitch Bends may also work.

well I already knew about the guitar thing, so I guess I'll just stick with MPC Pitch Bends. I already use those quite a lot so I guess it should work.
