Inserting Trills

How do I go about inserting an tr ornamentation over a note.
I have seached all the commands in noteworthyand can't find out how it is down

Sadly, there is no command for trilling in NWC.  So u either have to download a special font from the scriptorium or write it in by means of a text expression.

Or you can get by with this tr~~~~~~~~.
[this used to look perfect when the forum’s font was Times New Roman...
I wish I could put !font(Times New Roman=text)...]

Download the Boxmark2.ttf font from the Scriptorium, and use its letters h, i and j.

h is a small trill sign with a couple of squiggles tr~~, i and j are just ~~ and ~~~ respectively, so you can use them either as extensions of the trill sign or use them to indicate a shake.

Align them to the next note/bar.

You'll find they leave a little white space between each "letter" but you can adapt to it by padding one with a single white space like so:

Wouldn't it be nice if NoteWorthy Composer had a performable trill?  :-)  Of course, you'd then need settings for it, to govern its speed, its termination, and upper and lower accidentals.  Guess I should add this to the wishlist!

Meanwhile, most of us get by with writing tr~~~~ as suggested by Edmond, and if creating a MIDI file, using two staves.  The first staff is for printing only, with tr~~~~ and other text indications; while the other, non-printing staff, has the actual trill and other ornaments written out in full.

As well as trills, NoteWorthy lacks support for mordents and shakes.  These are most useful in late Baroque/early Classical music, from Bach to Haydn.  Yes, I'm definitely off to the wishlist again!

I agree we need performable trills, together with appropriate embedded trill symbols.  If you're going to the wish list, don't forget to also request the trill flat option, and if there is such a thing, a trill sharp.

The first looks something like trb~~~~~.  I can't recall ever seeing a trill with a sharp sign, but I think I've seen a "trill natural" where, for instance, you might be in the key of Bb major but want to have a trill from D to E natural.  I'm pretty sure I've seen a trill indicator with a natural sign.

Let me start by saying I am not AGAINST having performable ornaments.  However, as I see it, the point of ornaments is that this is where the composer hands over the creative baton to the performer for a while.  Hence it is futile to try to define precisely how an ornament should be played.  That only gets determined at "run time".  Look at the debate we have had here about whether grace notes should steal time from the previous or following note and how long they should be.  When you get onto trills the possibilities are endless.  Start on upper note or lower note?  Fast?  Slow?  Accelerate?  Decelerate? Decelerate then accelerate?  Finish with a turn? etc. etc...

I very much like the principle of the current solution of writing out and hiding the "performance".  However, the implemention might be a little more slick - enter an ornament and get presented with a pop-up staff segment to enter the performance.  Now that would be nice.  But a hidden perfomance staff or hiding individual performance notes is OK for now.  And if some cludged "default" perfomance is implemented I can always ignore it!
