Frustration

I've had NWC for a few months now... and I've never really been able to catch onto it. I really wanna get good with it, especially since i've seen the good kinda things that it can do. I enjoy a lot of music, and have a lot of original tunes in my head that I've been wanting to to record before I forget them, but I just can't express them the way I want. It's ver' frustrating. Basically, is there like a book I can buy, or a guide I can find explaining it stupidly, but going advanced into it?

Hmm, this (and many other posts on this forum) brings me an idea...

What if the users of this forum started a wiki-style book on all the tips and tricks involving NWC, something like a "Noteworthy Composer ABC"?

The CD includes a tutorial/user's guide. Have you been through that?

I have used NWC for several years for all my compositions and
I remember how frustrating it was getting started. When I get
a tune in my head I find the fastest way to get it on 'paper'
is to use all quarter notes (crochets) and then go back after
wards and change them to the correct ones. NWC has most of
the features found in the expensive packages but some are hard
to find, you need to do a lot of reading thru this Forum and
on the CD. Especially helpful are the shortcut keys, these
save a lot of time. Stick with it, it's worth the effort.

No, I haven't bought the thing...but I'd like to, I have the trial version. How much is it to buy the whole thing, and how does it compare to other programs. I'd imagine NWC is one of the best, I don't care if there's more complex, but professional, but generally, is NWC the best?

To subscribe to version 1.75b is only US$39 -go here for details:

If I understand the information on that page and on http://www.noteworthysoftware.com/composer/replace.htm you will receive the CD with 1.75b on it. If you already were a registered user and just hadn't upgraded to 1.75b, it would have only been $15 to upgrade

Anyway, just install 1.75b from the CD, and then download the NWC2 public preview for free. You will have a licence for version 2 at no extra cost when it comes out.

I have used version 2 to make scores and parts for around 40 big band charts already and I'm very happy with it.

It may not be the most powerful processor, but it does most of what I need, either directly or with workarounds, and it has a couple of advantages - simplicity (easy to learn) and a lot of user control (flexibility).

I second the motion that it's best value for money. There are two or three popular programs that can do more, but in my experience they take longer to learn and cost  literally ten times as much.

One thing Noteworthy won't do is give you a musical education, though it can make it easier to teach yourself.
Learning to put sounds on paper, even with a useful tool like Noteworthy, still takes a little learning. One great thing about Noteworthy is that it gives you instant feedback - you can notate something and immediately hear more-or-less what it will sound like when a literate musician plays from your score.
