time signature

I just got this Ives piece in orchestra, and one of the time signatures is 4½ 4 time.
Any suggestions as to how I can accomplish this?

Could you cheat a bit a do it in 9/8 time? (Perhaps adjust the tempo via the controllers, hide the time signature and use text expression tool to show 4 1/2 4 time?

Another option is to add alternating bars of 4/8 and 5/8 - or however the beat is structured - and hide the time signatures and bar lines.  It's long and tedious, but is more likely to get the beaming correct than 9/8.

Percy Grainger used 2½4 in Lincolnshire Posy.

A friend helped me out using the text items.
Thanks all.

Tia try using a note that is worth half of what the other beats are for example if you where using a note that lasted 2 beats the half beat would last for one try that and see how it sounds
