Multiple notes with different lengths in one staff

How do I notate a measure in 6/8 time in the right hand of a piano part so that the top notes are 1/8, 1/8, 1.8 and the bottom notes are dotted 1/8, 1/16, 1/8?  CTRL-INS only works on the first note.  When I try to insert the 1/16th note, it only will go in as a new beat.  Thanks

The short answer is , you can't. But you have three work-rounds:

  • Split the middle 1/8th into tied 1/16ths and chord the lower 1/16th with the second one.
  • Chord the middle 1/8th with a 1/16th rest and tippex(white) it out.
  • Use layering
None of these is ideal. The first is notationally incorrect, or at least non-standard. The second is a pain and downright ugly. The third is a sledgehammer to crack a nut, but is the official NWC method!
