Help! Stop the Ringin'!!!

Help!

I have a Sound Blaster Live! 5.1. I am using Windows 98 (I believe it's second edition) And I have a Technics SX-PR110 (Over 15 years old, never found anymore!) It's mainly a problem using Noteworthy Composer, but my other applications will sometimes do this, too. When I try to playback selections on my keyboard, I plays back, but then I get these very loud, shrilling and piercing sounds that don't go away unless I press stop (which either takes five literal seconds and the sound stops, or the sound changes volume to even louder sound) It sounds like the flute instrument playing a bunch of the highest possible notes. What do I do to eliminate this problem?

Have you created a MIDI echo loop? This is kind of like using a microphone too close to a speaker and getting feedback, only in the digital domain.

Some MIDI keyboards echo the MIDI input that they receive on MIDI output. If you also configure NWC to echo MIDI input from Tools, Options, you can create a feedback loop that could give your hardware a lot of problems.

If you do not have a feedback loop, you might simply have a poorly behaving MIDI driver. The only thing you can do in that case is look for a driver upgrade.
