MIDI types

good evening, sirs and madams of the NWC!
just one question, you please...
what is the difference, if there is one, between the two different MIDI save as options?
in other words...
You can save a NWC file as either MIDI TYPE 1 or MIDI TYPE 0. I have no idea what could possibly be different about them except perhaps the name.
any ideas, anyone?

From the acrobat file in the "Booklet" folder on the CD from NWC in the section on "Combine tracks of a MIDI file":

"2. Use File: Save and set Save as type: Type 0 MIDI File to export the file as a Type 0. File Type 0 puts everything on one track, while File Type 1 keeps separate tracks."

You can see a differance if you "save as" both a type 0 & a type 1 MIDI and then opening each of these files back into NWC. I'm pretty new at all of this, so I'm sure someone else may have a much better explaination. I just happened to remember reading this in the booklet.

If you want to edit the individual instruments after saving the file or if you want to import the MIDI file into some other music software (heaven forbid! :) )it would be better to save as a type 1.  If you don't plan to edit parts later or are collecting several songs to play in a "jukebox" type MIDI player then you might prefer type 0.  Neither way is set in stone since most music software can convert easily between both types of MIDI files.
