No note heads in PDF

I just got Acrobat and tried making PDF's with it. When I print using PDFWriter, the note heads appear as lines and the score and stem placement is way off too.
Could you please inform me on how to make the PDF's work?

I usually use the Acrobat Distiller rather than the PDFWriter. The Distiller is a bit more robust. I found that although the PDFWriter worked part of the time, it was not consistent.

If you are planning to post the files on the web, I would recommend that you have the Distiller embed all the fonts to avoid folks running into potential viewing issues. Makes for a slightly larger file, but . . .

Ok, I found that out too, I just hadn't tried Distiller yet - and didn't have a PS printer installed.

I also found out that PDFWriter is just...well... crap. When I printed from CorelDraw the result was really awful -- but Distiller worked perfectly.

And, even if your PDF is wonderful and perfect, some computers may have the original version of acrobat read 5 which had a bug and is fixed now but if the read 5 software wasn't updated then it might be funky. so tell your friends to upgrade read 5 to whatever version it is now.

All of the music I sell as pdf's, and our downloads at Sax On The Web (Tim Price and Jody Espina's etudes) are printed using the Acrobat Distiller.  You can set the preferences so that it the resulting pdf file is compatible with Acrobat 4.0.  Many people still have 4.0 and this solves a lot of problems, without causing any problems for users of 5.0.
