RIP Ntworthy.nwc 1997-2003

You shall be sorely missed...

<Plays The Last Post>

Rest in Peace old buddy.... :*o(

How are we going to share files now? I don't understand this RSS business...I don't mean to be unkind but there are some who are very illiterate (when it comes to technology) and the newsgroup was just right for them. I can't see John White (no offence John)learning a new technology - what is it they say about old dogs and new tricks? This is going to sound incredibly pathetic, but that group was part of my life for nearly 7 years. I met some fantastic people through it - and there are many I feel privileged to call friends (Andreas, Anndra and Neeraj are amazing). Then there's young Joel - who could easily pass for someone twice his age. This is going to sound like a cliche - but I feel I can truly say I have met some very talented people - none of whom I can ever hope to emulate.

Removing the NG is a big mistake - it had a community spirit (after a fashion - OK we had arguments and people left because of some of those arguments and not everyone got on with everyone - but then who does in real life?) I know I've caused my fair share of rifts and arguments - I'm not the easiest person to get along with I know.

I have to say I'm saddened at the loss of the newsgroup - it was a fantastic place. I really don't like the forum - It doesn't have the same community spirit.

I hope this is just 'A bientot' and not 'au revoir'.

Until we meet again, my friends...

May we not be separated by the miles...

Stay safe...

Sorry Cass, but obviously I am as thick as you claim to be - but what has RSS got to do with the newsgroup? That isn't on the NWC web site.
Anyway, the ng appears to be up and running this morning.

As a regular contributor (?) to the forum, but not to the newsgroup, all I can say is: Sorry about the lack of community spirit. Bummer.

Although they sound similar, there is no connection between our RSS newsfeed announcement and the NNTP newsgroup. They are distinctly different communication mediums: RSS newsfeeds tend to be one way (from publisher to reader), and NNTP newsgroups tend to be oriented around group discussion.
