Problem with installing WebUpdate 9 2003-02-27 12:01 am I can't install any of the web updates. I can download them alright, but when I try to install them it comes up with the Initializing box and then gives me the following error..NWC175SP9 caused an invalid page fault inmodule GLF90D2.TMP at 017f:01594ab2.Registers:EAX=017f248c CS=017f EIP=01594ab2 EFLGS=00010246EBX=017fc1e0 SS=0187 ESP=0063e5d0 EBP=0063e5e8ECX=015a0000 DS=0187 ESI=015a0000 FS=4617EDX=00009d54 ES=0187 EDI=73726577 GS=0000Bytes at CS:EIP:89 77 04 3b 1d 24 17 5a 01 75 06 89 0d 24 17 5aStack dump:01580000 00002710 0063e630 00000001 73726577 736e615c 0063e5f4 01594c90 017fc0d4 0063e600 01594ca0 017fc0d4 0063e614 01596096 017fc0d4 017fc0d4It is the same story for Web update 8NWC175SP8 caused an invalid page fault inmodule GLF9301.TMP at 017f:01594ab2.Registers:EAX=017f248c CS=017f EIP=01594ab2 EFLGS=00010246EBX=017fc1e0 SS=0187 ESP=0063e5d0 EBP=0063e5e8ECX=015a0000 DS=0187 ESI=015a0000 FS=45bfEDX=00009d54 ES=0187 EDI=73726577 GS=0000Bytes at CS:EIP:89 77 04 3b 1d 24 17 5a 01 75 06 89 0d 24 17 5aStack dump:01580000 00002710 0063e630 00000001 73726577 736e615c 0063e5f4 01594c90 017fc0d4 0063e600 01594ca0 017fc0d4 0063e614 01596096 017fc0d4 017fc0d4I use Windows 98 SE, and I tried installing it in Safe Mode just in case there was a conflicting software issue. Didn't work in safe mode either.thanks Quote Selected
Re: Problem with installing WebUpdate 9 Reply #1 – 2003-02-27 12:43 am Many users have downloaded the updates since they were posted, and no other complaints so far... I would guess that other users coudn't help you (unless musicians can also read stack dumps). Looks like a direct question for Noteworthy support, via e-mail. Quote Selected
Re: Problem with installing WebUpdate 9 Reply #2 – 2003-02-27 12:53 am What version are you currently using? It is hard to know what is going wrong and causing this. Make sure that you download the update to a simple directory, such as C:\DOWNLOADS and then try running it.It could be that you have a display driver problem. Does this happen when you run any of our install programs? Quote Selected
Re: Problem with installing WebUpdate 9 Reply #3 – 2003-02-27 04:50 am Currently running 1.75 Update 4.I downloaded it to c:\windows\desktop\It could be that you have a display driver problem. Does this happen when you run any of our install programs? No. It doesn't seem to be a display problem.(It seems to be a problem with GLF90D2.TMP!) Quote Selected

The install software uses temporary files for all of its activities.>No. It doesn't seem to be a display problem. How did you determine that you do not have a display driver problem? It is the most common cause of these type of things. The fact that you were able to apply update 4 means that something has changed on your PC since you applied that update. If you know what has changed, or what you are doing differently since applying that update, the easiest thing to do would be to reverse that change. Quote Selected
Re: Problem with installing WebUpdate 9 Reply #5 – 2003-02-27 06:11 pm I've always had trouble with the updates, no matter what system I've used. And I don't even get any error messages. The updates just end up not working. So I wait (and wait) until the next full version comes out, and then everything's cool from there. Quote Selected
Re: Problem with installing WebUpdate 9 Reply #6 – 2003-03-03 02:37 am I don't think that there are any inherent problems with the updates. I would guess that over a period of time, your system has had some essential Windows file reverse-updated by some other installed application, or somthing like that.Recently, when I went to update Netscape 7.01 to 7.02, Netscape's link did not work (from within Netscape browser!). But the problem was that I had conflicting versions of the Java Virtual Machine installed, and the system registry was confused. The fix was to rip out anything suspicious, and re-install (not recommended for everyone). Quote Selected
Re: Problem with installing WebUpdate 9 Reply #7 – 2003-03-03 10:51 am > Clear your download cacheI tried this, and magically the setup program now works.(I think it's always a good idea not to be running NWC when you run the setup program for the first time. oops) Quote Selected
Re: Problem with installing WebUpdate 9 Reply #8 – 2003-03-03 03:43 pm Ah, yes... clear your download cache. My own machine is set to automatically clear cache whenever the browser is closed, even if the machine is not re-booted. On occasion, I use someone else's machine (which does not clear cache) and have difficulties.AOL, in particular, seems to have a problem there. Maybe it's gone in the more recent version. But with AOL6 on Windows 95 (underlying browser is IE5.5), instructing the browser to clear its files does NOT have the desired effect. Apparently, AOL itself is holding on to the cached file. Even reloading a page may not work. Quote Selected
Re: Problem with installing WebUpdate 9 Reply #9 – 2003-03-04 07:56 am I wonder if perhaps IE uses Shift-Reload to provide a "full refresh" like Mozilla, forcing the entire page including images and other objects to be reloaded from the server.I sometimes have to use this to force a refresh on an image I know has been updated, but Mozilla still loads it from cache even though the html itself is updated.
