rest in chord member?

I am a chinese and a newbie in this software, hope that what I say here is understandable.
Basically, I know how to put a rest in a chord member. My question is this:
let say, there is a chord of 3 notes in the lower staff; the lowest note is played by left hand and the upper 2 are played by right hand;
The lowest note is half duration but the upper ones are quarter duration and I want to put a rest after the upper notes
(I don't have note after the half note, so I guess I can't put a rest as if it is in a chord).
How can I put the rest so that it is placed more or less the same level as the upper notes on the staff?
Is it possible to do so? All I can see is the default position of the rest,
which is in the middle of the staff.
If you don't understand my question, please kindly reply and tell me.
Thanks a million.

At the moment, a rest placed by itself will appear in the standard center position on the staff. If a rest is combined with a larger note, then the rest will shift to make room for the note, if necessary.
