Notes with letters inside

I am a music teacher and I need to give my pupils examples
where the notes have the corresponding letter (A-G) inside.
Is there any way to do that with NWC ?
It is very difficult to paint and write mannualy it over the printout.

Yes, I found a way. I tried inserting text over the note (Expression Placement: Justification Center, Alignment at next note), but the note hides the text. However, you can do this:
1) Make a new staff directly under the original.
2) Copy the contents of the original staff into the new staff.
3) Make all the notes invisible (select all the notes, Ctrl-E, select Never on the visibility tab.
4) Now you can insert text over the invisible note. Pick a suitable font. You can change the text colour using the Visiblity tab, Item Colour combobox. You can change the color selection for "Hightlight 1" in Tools | Options | Color.
5) Layer the two staves (On first staff, F2, Visual tab; activate with Page Setup | Contents tab.

A more roundabout way would be to create a placeable metafile (WMF) using Print Preview > Copy. The WMF can be opened and edited any way you like as a drawing item, with Adobe Illustrator (and probably Corel Draw, etc) if you happen to own that kind of software.

Note to everyone: Is there a lot of demand for a font that has notes with letters inside, appropriately positioned on a staff, that can be used as ordinary text in a word processing document (not inside a music program)? If so, then I might crank one out in my spare time. No promises!

My music instructor told me about Noteworthy, and I am considering purchasing it. He was not aware of a way to put note letters inside the note symbols, but it would be a helpful addition to new students learing the notes!

I am now beginning work on a font for other purposes. There is some space left over (unused characters). I could possible create some "notes with letters inside." Although any font can be used as "text" within NWC, this font would not be a substitute for the actual notation font. In other words, you could not compose music and have the letters appear inside the notes. But as "text" (within a word processor) I could do it.

Space is restricted. I have room for one style of note only (say, quarter notes) in a limited range (on the treble clef, say the A just below middle C, to the C two octaves above middle C). The note would be depicted with an appropriate position on the staff, with leger lines when necessary. The letter would be a capital, in white, sitting within the black note head.

Is this of interest? Respond here on the forum. I can't promise I'll do it, but I might.

While on the way to looking up other things, I came across a free font that has letters (all of them) inside notes.

http://www.geocities.com/Heartland/Grove/6997/musicfonts.html

In case the link ever breaks, the originator is "pearlygates" in Australia. The font with letters is "Simple Melody." There are a couple of other nice music fonts on the site.

Unlike many font sources that have rip-off fonts, or are just directories, the above site appears to be the font creator's personal site.
