Copying lines of music to other documents 2002-04-13 10:33 pm I've been trying to copy a line of music (using "Copy Special" function) into an Office XP document... and when I do, there is a lot of blank space around my line of music...Does anyone know how to solve this problem? Thanks! Re: Copying lines of music to other documents Reply #1 – 2002-04-14 01:26 am Copy special just doesn't do the job. Besides your spacing problem, the notes just don't look right, and you can see the diamond for text expressions. If you want to copy into another program, you should use the copy feature in the print preview. I copies better looking notes at the resolution your printer is set to. You will, however, have to crop the extra white space. To do this, you could paste it into Paint and then select only what you want and copying it into Office XP. I can't tell you how to crop in Office XP because I don't use Office. Quote Selected
Re: Copying lines of music to other documents Reply #2 – 2002-04-14 01:34 am Using Paint may not be satisfactory. The pixels are HUGE compared to other graphics programs. I have used Word for this procedure, and it's not too bad. Quote Selected
Re: Copying lines of music to other documents Reply #3 – 2002-04-15 02:54 pm (1) "Irfan View" is a free program, widely available on the web. Among other things, it can convert a WMF to a graphic image (BMP, TIFF, etc.) and crop it. Get Irfan View and its plugins.(2) In NWC, use "Print Preview" then "Copy" to a placeable WMF (Windows Metafile). The resolution of the image will depend on the resolution of the printer that was selected at time of copy.(3) Open the WMF in Irfan View, and crop what you don't need. Then, save the result in some format that can be placed into your end document. I recommend TIFF. You may have to re-scale the image when it is placed.Alternative approach: You can place the WMF (as a WMF) directly into MS Office documents. If you do, it retains its identity as a scaleable (vector) drawing, and can be re-sized without producing graininess. Within Office, you can crop the excess white space (or even crop some of your staffs, if you wish). How to place and crop a WMF is explained in Office help.I should mention that the ability of NWC to create a placeable WMF is an outstanding feature that seems to be under-used. Quote Selected
Re: Copying lines of music to other documents Reply #4 – 2002-04-16 06:22 am I find the best way to use the copy tool is to paste into Microsoft Publisher which allows you a picture frame of more or less whatever size you want, and can be easily cropped. Once you have the optimum result, you can then easily paste it into other types of file. Quote Selected
Re: Copying lines of music to other documents Reply #5 – 2002-04-17 10:30 am Importing WMF files into Word also has the advantage that you can make the image updatable (if you choose to). So if you change the NWC file, just re-export it to WMF and the Word document is altered too. Quote Selected
