help with soundfonts and such

okay.. i just recently bought a sb live! platinum... which comes with a ton of soundfont stuff. i've begun designing my own sound banks but i have no idea how to use them at all. i would LOVE to be able to use them in NWC, as it is my all time favorite midi composing program. i have learned to read and write music from it, but still the midi format and technology is pretty vague to me. is it possible to load soundbanks and use them with other applications? even if i could write my music in the composer and play it back using a different program i would. i have tried to make my soundbank the only one loaded in the soundfont manager, but this doesnt work. this card's wavetable is pretty nice sounding but i need to be able to add my own instruments. if anybody has any ideas or can tell me if its possible, please let me know. i do not own a midi keyboard, do i have to own one to use soundfonts? in something other than the stupid keyboard program that came with the app cd from the sb live! card? if possible write your reply to find_camus@yahoo.com.. if thats not possible i will check back here later. thanks for your time :)

For sf's with NWC check

SoundFonts and External Banks

thread. Especially replies 3 and 4 clarify the point but never hesitate to ask further.

Try the following for sf's in general:

Hammersound
Soundfonts Newsgroup (might be temporarily down for short periods of time. Don't give up trying if you cannot access at the first time)
HYBRID
The Sound Site

Btw, don't forget to visit S. Christian Collins's website and give a try to his marvellous GeneralUser GS 1.3

Just out of curiosity; what's the point with this?

IMHO, the point is that someone who prints this message and wants to read the reference at any later connection is unable to know that this reference was message number 1517.

I can also imagine that it would throw a wrench into compiling the off-line forum for use with the Windows Help system. Links to other messages would essentially be "dead" if expressed as web URLs.

Yes, links to forum messages should be using the !nnn system so that the offline version continues to work in an offline fashion, without forcing back into the online version.
