fractal music

I want to try and make a fractal song and I'm wondering if there are any strict rules that go with it? Is it like arranging for random notes or does it go much deeper than that?
Any websites about them?

Thanks

There are as many "rules" as there are fractal composers, and as many variants on the rules as there are fractals. As in other areas of composition, rules are generally summations of "what works, and what doesn't."

Some fractal programmers essentially just find a neat sequence, and assign instrument patches to them, believing that the fractal's raw purity should not be compromised by meddling. My preference is to use the fractal sequence simply as a starting point, from whence I compose the rest of the piece using "conventional" means. Some of my fractal pieces are at my My mp3.com site.

A good starting point for finding out more about fractal music creation is Fractal Music Lab. An older but still excellent site is The Fractal Music Project.

Above all, have fun, and let your creativity go nuts!
