beaming

Is there any way do beam notes so the result is something like this?

where star = note head, | = stem, and _ = beam

NWC requires that all members of a beamed group have the same stem direction.

A very good question, because I have the same problem. Beaming notes in the way, you suggest is often used in scores for organ music (Bach for example). I suggest you put your request on the NWC wishlist.
