importing .mid files - whats wrong with this one? 1998-11-22 05:00 am If someone would kindly help me with this one, I'd very muchappreciate it. I can't figure out what's "wrong" with thissong:http://www.net1plus.com/users/pammett/music/God Bless the USA/USA.midIt sounds beautiful when I play the .mid file, but aftermany many attempts to import it, I cannot get the scoreeditor to come up with anything that sounds even closeto the quality of the .mid when played back. If I picka fine resolution (32 or 64th), it sounds smooth enough (as opposed to the extremely choppy effect you get if youpick 16th resolution), but even with smooth, it stillbreaks off notes VERY suddenly. My guess is that the 'problem' lies in the peddle beingon or off at the right/wrong time. But I don't see anyoption other than just ON or OFF and neither of thosesounds right. I can hardly believe that I have to go thru this whole score and change the peddle though I havedone that for a few bars and I can get it to sound a lotbetter. But my question is: what settings can I specify in theimport that get me a score that sounds pretty much equivalent to the .mid? Or, is it in fact true thatthere's just something 'wrong' with the .mid file itself ?Thanks !-Kevin|+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++| email "for life" : Kevin_Gene_Pammett@Bigfoot.com | phone: (978) 448-9088 | home: http://www.net1plus.com/users/pammett/ Quote Selected
Re: importing .mid files - whats wrong with this one? Reply #1 – 1998-11-22 05:00 am There is nothing wrong with the MIDI file, it is just that the performance does not lend itself to conversion to notation. It uses arpeggiated chords, and a lot of overlapping notes, which is not translated well into notation. This is one of those cases where hand entering may be easier than trying to "fix" the problems with the imported notation. Quote Selected

Reply #2 – 2000-07-16 04:00 am (This is probably way-late, but never mind)....Suggestion: if your software includes Note-duration, you could Selectchunks (as required) of music and set the durations to about 99%. Trial and error will help. QG. Quote Selected
Re: importing .mid files - whats wrong with this one? Reply #3 – 2000-07-16 04:00 am Keep in mind that there are a bunch of midi files that won't import properly into any notation software. As Quentin suggests, try trial and error, select different quanitization on note length and rests. The next best thing is to buy a music book with that score in it. I came across a book with that title and a bunch of similiar things like America The Beautiful but since I'm a punk rocker I never bought it. Quote Selected
