Inputting Notes From Piano Keyboard 1998-09-30 04:00 am I have installed NoteWorthy on a computer with a Sound Blaster 16 sound card. I connected this system to my Yamaha CLP-20. I can play sample files on the Yamaha. I can also create songs from the computer keyboard and play them on the Yamaha. But when I try to input notes from the Yamaha in either step time or record I get nothing. What am I missing? I've read the manual a dozen times and read all the old forum messages but nothing seems to fix it.Do I need to do something with the sound driver or MIDI Mapper in Windows?Any suggestions would be most helpful. Re: Inputting Notes From Piano Keyboard Reply #1 – 1998-09-30 04:00 am Kelly,Check the Tools / Options dialogue.Under the Record Tab your settings should be:-Input Device - SB16 Midi In (220) or some other address recognized by your card (yours might be 330).Since you have tried to record in step-time without success either the input device is set incorrectly or address is incorrect. If you can produce a sound from the keyboard through the soundcard the connections are OK and recording should then work.If you turn off the sound of your keyboard can you hear the notes through the sound card speakers if you play without recording?I assume that your MIDI cable is connected correctly to the MIDI IN / MIDI OUT ports.Apart from that I cant help.Perhaps someone else has had difficulty with this model keyboard. Re: Inputting Notes From Piano Keyboard Reply #2 – 1998-10-01 04:00 am Your MIDI cables are marked In and Out. Remember, the cable marked IN goes into the Keyboard port marked OUT. I found this confusing when I first started with MIDI.Gordon Quote Selected
Re: Inputting Notes From Piano Keyboard Reply #3 – 1998-11-03 05:00 am On my Yamaha (clavonova p100) I need to press the "midi" button to get it send the midi.BTW - i didn't find the option useful - in input modegetting different length notes is difficult,in record modes - i don't play accurate enough toget it right. I find using the keyboard (numeric pad)best. Quote Selected

Re: Inputting Notes From Piano Keyboard Reply #5 – 1998-11-08 05:00 am I am not sure what you mean by "similar problems", but if you are having trouble getting the record feature or step time entry feature to work, it is usually caused by one of the following:- an improperly connected MIDI cable (input connected to input, rather than output for example)- a faulty MIDI cable (try it on other equipment to test it out)- a misconfigured sound card on the computer (sometimes the wrong drivers are installed, or a device conflict prevents the MIDI input to work correctly)- a faulty MIDI out port on the keyboard (try it with other equipment to see if that is the problem)See also: https://forum.noteworthycomposer.com/?topic=99, https://forum.noteworthycomposer.com/?topic=108, https://forum.noteworthycomposer.com/?topic=111, https://forum.noteworthycomposer.com/?topic=118, https://forum.noteworthycomposer.com/?topic=139, https://forum.noteworthycomposer.com/?topic=147, https://forum.noteworthycomposer.com/?topic=233, https://forum.noteworthycomposer.com/?topic=266, https://forum.noteworthycomposer.com/?topic=312, https://forum.noteworthycomposer.com/?topic=418, https://forum.noteworthycomposer.com/?topic=457, https://forum.noteworthycomposer.com/?topic=718 Quote Selected
Re: Inputting Notes From Piano Keyboard Reply #6 – 1998-11-08 05:00 am Asking from a position of total ignorance-If one is playing in from a touch sensitive keyboard on a standalone synthesizer, would it not be likely that the attack-decay-sustain characteristics of the player and the synthesizer would interact to produce note on/off commands that NWC import is reproducing literally and pretty accurately? If the synth supports perhaps selecting a wind vice piano or string would give better results. The instrument can be changed again in nwc after the notes are delivered. Quote Selected
